Debunking Some Ceramic Coating Myths!

Myth 1: Ceramic Coatings are indestructible.

While ceramic coatings are known for their durability and resistance to contamination and chemicals, a ceramic coating can still be damaged by harsh chemicals, bird poo, sap that is left untreated, abrasive materials, or physical damage such as rock chips or scratches.

The best defense for your ceramic coating is regular maintenance either by yourself or by having MRG Mobile Detailing keep it clean for its duration.

Myth 2: You will only ever need one application of a ceramic coating.

As you can see from our ceramic coating offerings, our specific formulas can last up to 3 years with proper vehicle detailing maintenance. However, all good things do come to an end, and eventually, you will need a re-application of a ceramic coating.  Nothing is permanent or lasts a lifetime. The paint under the coating is not permanent and everything on this earth has a life expectancy and will break down with time, just like your ceramic coating.

Myth 3: An individual can purchase a ceramic coating at the parts store or big box store.

I want to clear this up immediately: Anything you can purchase at a local auto store that claims to be a "ceramic" coating is NOT a Ceramic Coating if it comes in a plastic bottle! This is not to say that store-bought paint sealants and other auto surface protection products are ineffective, they are just NOT ceramic coatings. 

Myth 4: You never have to wash your car again. 

Coatings make your car much easier to wash and the vehicle is certainly going to stay cleaner for longer. But your car is still going to get dirty, even with a coating on it. A Ceramic coating requires maintenance to prolong its durability and longevity.  Just like many things in life, if you don't care for it, it will not last long.  If you do not care for your coating properly it will degrade prematurely and not last its intended life span.  

Myth 5: Ceramic Coatings peel off.

A Ceramic Coating forms a thin, chemically bonded barrier on the top of your clear coat. People think that when it fails, it's going to fail like a clear coat separating from the base color coat. When a coating fails, just like when wax fails, you're not going to see it peeling off. It simply just wears away.

Some Ceramic Coating FAQ's!

Can I wash my car after the coating is installed?

Once the coating is applied, your vehicle should not be washed for 7-10 days with chemicals.  This is based on manufacturer recommendations because your coating is still curing (hardening) during this time.  

 

Can the ceramic coating replace my clear coating?

No, it can not!  Once your clear coat has failed, the only option you have is to have your vehicle repainted.   A ceramic coating will not help clear coat failure.

 

Can you apply a coating at my home?

Yes and No.  We can apply our 6 month and  1-year ceramic coating at your house during a mobile detail.  With our 2 and 3-year coatings,  I prefer proper lighting and stable working conditions for the coatings in my home garage.

 

How long will you have my car?

6 month and 1-year coatings are released immediately. With the 2 and 3-year coatings typically I can release your car if the weather is ideal later in the evening and the car is going to your garage, if not I require your car to remain with me overnight.
